March 10, 1959 : a historic day in the lives of all Tibetans, when thousands of Tibetans rose up in unison to protect their leader His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama and protest the Chinese invasion and occupation of Tibet. For more than half a century, Tibetans have suffered unimaginable hardship under the Chinese rule that besides those who have died at their hands, 152 martyrs have self immolated in the recent years to protest the oppressive rule. Despite the ever- tightening of the iron handed grip of the Communist government, the younger generation in Tibet are finding new and creative ways to keep their identity and culture alive.
March 10, 2018: 59th anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan National Uprising, is being observed throughout the world by Tibetan communities and international supporters of justice for Tibet. Our plea to every freedom loving citizens of this world: stand on the right side of history, lend your voice to end genocide by the tyrants and support the Tibetan movement for the right to live in one’s own country free from oppression and enjoy basic human rights.
Bearing in mind our somber history and the countless lives lost, we strongly urge every community member to join us for this gathering and the procession following it.
